HOT & SPICY: 3 LISTS FROM WARDICE RTT

Hello and welcome to Hot & Spicy where we review 3 list of an upcoming tournament this weekend. First up in this series is The Wardice Wargames RTT, organised by the boys from Haarlem. I’ve been (and will always) give these boys loads of shit but this is by far one of the best, most enjoyable clubs in the Netherlands and i have yet to meet Wardicer who isn’t a superfriendly enjoyable opponent! If you ever get paired into a Wardicer you can look forward to a very enjoyable 3 hours ;)

Now to get into the meat of it! The Wardice wargames is a 20 man RTT and the faction breakdown is very “Dutch” like. We love our imperial specialist armies and it reflects with 5 adeptus custodes and 3 grey knights armies! Another interesting fact, there are no eldaeri faction! I guess the dutch community knows how to balance itself! Reno and Rob, both wardice members are giving the tau a spin and i wish them all the luck, they’re going to need it! Tau has the punch but it’s a very fragile army and 1 small mistake can make it a very hard struggle for them.

I’ve picked 3 lists from the roster which get the label Hot & Spicy, these are lists which i consider potential winners of the event or are very innovative and interesting with the potential to surprise the meta.

    ALLIED UNITS5x Exaction Squad (35 Points)5x Exaction Squad (35 Points)Char 4: Callidus Assassin (115 Points)Char 5: Vindicare Assassin (80 Points)

On first glance grey knights look a bit lackluster, they’re not really though, and their damage output is pretty lackluster. While this might be right it’s also a shortsighted view. Upon closer inspection (especially after seeing Jack harpsters results at the WTC) you can see the grey knights are very mobile and tricksy army! Interacting with them is quite hard since they have options like making 1 unit only targetable if you’re within 12”, another unit can be removed from table once you declare them as a target of a shooting attack and on top of that any unit can go back in reserves at the end of their opponents turn!

This means Grey Knights are mobile enough to focus down targets and be nimble enough to avoid the clapback! Daniels version has a bit more chaff in the form of 2 exaction squads and 2 assassins, i’m guessing these are his screens and secondary objective tools. The “vect” Ability of the Callidus is a nice bonus making the game into Grey Knight just a little bit more frustrating! Daniel is a known grey knight player who is not only a good player but also a great hobbyist. I think Daniel has a good chance in getting to the top 3 if he can get the right pairings but those 5 adeptus custodes lists are a bit worrysome..

    OTHER DATASHEETS

    10 Aberrants (330 points)

Ofcourse there is always that one guy who brings the most horrendous list to a nice and friendly tournament, and this time it’s Christian Domburg! He’s been playing imperial Knights for the last couple of weeks because of the WTC and he now wanted to play something “fun and easy”. This is pretty much a top of the meta list with a lot of tricks and tools but also a horrible shooting damage. Christians list is pretty much all muscle and no fat, every unit hits like brick with either demo charges (acolyte hybrids which can deepstrike within 3” ) or seismic cannons (neophyte hybrids) which can all respawn after you kill the unit and do the same trick over and over again. In Christian’s words “ I just want to play with 6000 points”....

There’s 2 more 2 units in the list which i would like to highlight and that are the reductus saboteurs and the Abberants. Aberrants are VERY hard to remove with 3 wounds an 4+++ buts most annoyingly, they’re very hard to target from range since GSC have a nice strat to make them untargetable out of 12”, this means you need to get dangerclose to get rid of them and if that fails you will get charged by them. Do the math on the unit to guarantee the outcome you want ;) Reductus Saboteurs have the magical abilitie of Lone Operators (in my opinion one of the best abilities) with an added extra bonus, if you get near them they’ll just dump a bunch of mortal wounds making them very hard to get rid of. Their shooting output is very good as well, If you don’t have any abilities to circumvent lone operative you’re going to have to take some punishment to get rid of them. I’m not going to lie, this is by far the strongest list in the tournament but Christian has had zero games with them yet so you do have a chance into him. @ all the custodes players, go get em boys!!!

And now to discuss the APEX predator in the house, Big Dick, yes as in Penis van der Harst! The scourge of 9th edition, the slayer of men and the Ancient Evil. Dick is back with his necrons and this time he didn’t make his own subpar list, he did a classic copy/paste from Liam Hackett.

This list slams HARD! We all know the resilience of Necrons, but you need to experience to understand it. This list is built to bog you down while scoring all the points and dealing damage all over the board. To give a good example, Netherlands top Custodes player, Christopher Clayton got absolutely molested by Liam on this list at WTC (so fair warning for the 5 custodes players at this tournament). Best way to deal with this? Shoot it…very hsard very fast and with a LOT of dice ;) If you’re list can’t deal with the warriorblobs i’d advise you to take out as much possible support units so you can keep staying in the game. Between these 3 potentials i’m giving Dick the highest winchance, mostly because of his experience with necrons and the DTT terrain boards do favor necrons quite a bit.

I wish all 20 players all the best of luck but knowing Wardice everyone will have a great day together and that is always the best outcome of this hobby;) I’ll be following all the results via BCP to see who will the win the next ticket to the Dutch Masters invitational.

And that’s out first Hot & Spicy article! I hope you’ve liked this kind of content, if so or not you can always reach out to me for some feedback ;)

Till next time!
